When Jesus asks a question

Did you ever notice how often the Lord begins His conversations with powerful, pointed questions?

  • “Simon, do you love Me more than these?” (John 21:15)
  • “Who has touched my clothes?” (Mark 5:30)
  • “Do you want to get well?” (John 5:6)
  • “Were you there when I laid the earth’s foundation?” (Job 38:4)
  • “Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3:11)

His words aim to rip away pretense and reveal us to ourselves.

Because so often it’s easier to know what’s in God’s heart than to understand our own. (Click to Tweet)

God 039 s HeartWhat questions has He been asking you lately? Here are a few He’s been whispering to my heart.

Sometimes the questions are tough, but God is always tender.

He plumbs the depths of our treacherous hearts,
“Judges our thoughts and intentions,”
and cherishes us no matter what He uncovers.

Let our Father’s lovingkindness
Make us humble,
Make us thankful,
And amaze us anew.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day, friends!

  2. Hi Renee,

Wow, yes, he uses questions in my life too! Your one here: “Do you want to get well?” is one of the ones he has asked me lately, and used in my life too. You’re right. He “reveals our hearts to ourselves,” huh?

Hopping over from Emily’s link up,

  3. I know God uses questions to reveal truth, but never thought how he uses that truth to reveal us to ourselves! Interesting thoughts here. 🙂 I’m stopping by from Essential Fridays.
