When you pick up a Davis Bunn novel, you’re guaranteed to be swept away on an exotic adventure!

davis bunn 2In his latest thriller, you’ll join Marc Royce and Kitra Korban as they investigate Iran’s threat to blockade the narrow Strait of Hormuz, cutting off vital shipping routes and escalating global tensions beyond the breaking point.

Marc is the State Department’s best-kept secret.

Kitra runs a kibbutz and occasionally helps the Mossad.

Kitra shows up in Switzerland just in time to save Marc from a set-up. In response, Marc throws her into a lake to keep her out of harm’s way—ruining the first designer suit she’s ever owned. So the story tension is set on high . . .

And the fact that Marc and Kitra are in love and trying to deny it, only adds to the fun.

What I liked best:

  • Action that begins right away—a bombing in the first chapter.
  • Strong, smart women who are vital to the plot
  • Exotic locations.
  • Danger.
  • Excitement.
  • The beauty of a relationship built on faith when Marc asks Kitra to meet each morning and pray about God’s will for their future.

A smidgeon of my favorite scene:

“When the door shut, Kitra said, ‘ I am my father’s child. I have been raised to fight. To do. To challenge the status quo and bend the will of an entire nation. To force people who stand against us to accept us and give us a place. To claim what is ours by right. I would have gained none of this if I had submitted.’

It was his turn to say, ‘I know.’

‘But this is what you’re asking me to do, isn’t it? To submit?’

‘No, Kitra. It’s not about me asking you to do anything at all. Except pray.’

‘But don’t you see?’ Her face creased with pain. ‘What if God tells me to do that? Bend to a will that’s not my own? Do something other than what I’ve spent my life building?’

‘This isn’t about giving up on anything. This is about taking a new direction. Together. As believers who care deeply for one another. This is about us and God.'”

  2. I tried to read Lion of Babylon but it was during a bad time and I just couldn’t manage it. Now you’ve intrigued me with this review and I may have to try again just so I can read this book :)
