From a Distance

Ann Voskamp Quote“God reveals Himself in rearview mirrors.”
~Ann Voskamp~

This quote caught my attention this week. Let it sink in . . .

Sometimes we don’t see God working in our lives & might even think He doesn’t care about our struggles.

It’s not until we look back from a distance that we see His hand in our days.

So let’s trust that time’s perspective will make much clear

And take a moment to thank Him for never letting us go.

(Warning: Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear!)

Here’s a bit more of the context . . .

“God reveals Himself in rearview mirrors. And I’ve an inkling that there are times when we need to drive a long, long distance, before we can look back and see God’s back in the rearview mirror. Maybe sometimes about as far as heaven—that kind of distance.” ~Ann Voskamp~

Thanks for stopping by today. Blessings, friends!

  1. Wow! Visiting you from Coffee for your Heart today & just LOVE this post! I’m struggling myself with accepting this reality & trusting His timing. Your post is a beautiful reminder to press on & know that my future is secure in Jesus & that one day I will look back & see why His timing was so perfect! 🙂 Trusting Him in the Waiting ♥

  2. Renee,
Stopping by from Holley’s link-up today and I love the reminder that God is working in our lives even when we can’t see it from our perspective. Later, it all comes into view!

  3. Renee- What a great reminder for me today. Sometimes, I look at the past as if it’s bigger than it is. Thanks for this great post! I’m glad I stopped by.

  4. Everyday, I recognize more and more the Savior’s had in my life~
    Blessings for this one!

  5. Yes, yes, yes!
This is so true. How many times have I wondered what God was up to and in hindsight it all made sense.

  6. I never thought about it like this, but yes, so true. We often see after the fact that God is always working behind, beside, and in front of us.

  7. Thanks so much for sharing at God’s Girl, Renee! I loved this post! It is so true that the most difficult times in my life seemed so hopeless while I was in them, but later, I now see God’s amazing hand in it all. I was diagnosed as chronically ill when I was only 18 and my plans had to radically change and I was devastated, but now it is clear that He was just preparing me for what He wanted me to do. All my pain has been so important and I couldn’t do what He wanted without it and it has helped me grow tremendously! I love how you phrased all of this and this is a huge encouragement to me!

  8. Wow — that quote really resonated with me. Thanks for sharing!

  9. Great picture! Love the choppy water!

  10. Loved the quote in full context … It is so true that things look differently in hindsight or from a distance. Even more true is this —> some things will only make sense when we look back from eternity. May we always remember He is faithful in all things, at all times. No matter what looks like at the moment. Grateful for this reminder, Renee! Blessings!

  11. Such a true statement. Many times, we don’t see Him until we are down the road.

  12. It does take distance to see the “whys” of life. I think, like Ann, some of those questions will be answered in the rear view from earth to heaven. Until I see them clearly I can trust God, knowing He put them in my life for a reason. ~Pamela

  13. Renee this has been soooooo true in my own life. Such a reflective post. Stopping by from The Missional Weekend Linkup. Have a great weekend!

  14. I loved this. Perspective is everything, right? I know there are many times I need to travel a far distance to see where God’s Hand was working all along. Weekend blessings!

  15. Objects in mirror may be closer than they seem. This whole little post is so clever–and so… eye-opening. 🙂

  16. Great picture, great quote and even greater perspective, Renee. You can bet I will be chewing on this truth as the week progresses. Thanks for sharing it over at #EverydayJesus.

  17. Reading your post makes me sit back and take a long easy breath and take a look around, to just absorb what God is doing. Love the quote!
