Embracing NEW

Sometimes the word NEW fills me with fear.

NEW means challenge & change & growth & stretching towards those long-sought goals in the distance.

But the years have taught me that other things often accompany NEW.

Pain & heartache & struggle & good-bye.

So my arms tremble a bit as I reach out to embrace the new year. And I seek a blessing to cover all the days to come. I pray this prayer for you, also.

May God give us grace to face the NEW
with Clear Eyes
and Steady Hearts
and Joy.

May the LORD answer you when you are in distress;
May the name of the God of Jacob protect you.
May He send you help from the sanctuary
And grant you support from Zion.
May He remember all your sacrifices
And accept your burnt offerings.
May He give you the desire of your heart
And make all your plans succeed.

May we shout for joy over your victory
And lift up our banners in the name of our God.
May the LORD grant all your requests.

Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
But we trust in the name of the LORD our God.

  1. Hello Renee, it’s lovely to meet you! We are neighbours at 3-D Lessons for Life blog link-up and I have hopped over to read your post and offer encouragement.
I love this prayer. Each new year holds potential and promise, but it also holds a great sense of the unknown as we enter uncharted territory. You have given us a way to acknowledge our fears and see who holds all things in His hands to offer us reassurance and peace beyond measure as we dip our tentative toes into 2014. Thank you for emphasising the positive to keep our focus where it needs to be. Happy New Year to you! Blessings :) x

  4. Renee, this psalm is very special to me. I have prayed it for several years now over my best friend’s husband who has stage 4 lung cancer. He is really a walking miracle.

I am thankful that He goes before us into unchartered waters. Thanks for this reminder.

  9. Renee,

Nice to meet you. I’m hopping over from the IP link up. Embracing the new with excitement and apprehension makes sense. I enjoyed you bringing in Psalm 2o. How encouraging and hopeful that he places our desires in our hearts too, and then brings them to light.

May he do amazing things in and through you this new year,Renee.

  11. Ahh, the desires of our hearts! I wrote an entire book about this! When our desires line up with His, we are truly blessed! New, change, those are scary words for me. But, as I often remind myself, if nothing ever changed we wouldn’t have butterflies. So I try to embrace these words as you have. Inspiring post, Renee, thank you! Blessings to you in 2014!
