How often do you sideline God and fly through one busy day after another without Him? Then a week or a month or more goes by, and you find yourself empty and aching for His touch on your life? If you are His child, you can be sure that He never leaves or forsakes you. He is very real in your world. All you need to do is train your eyes to “see Him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:27) You can begin today!

Here are 5 places where You’re sure to find God.

1. In something beautiful that catches your eye. How Communion Sunday looked in our church while it was decorated for a wedding.

2. In an answer to prayer that lifts your soul.  As dementia steals my mom’s personality and clouds her past, I continually ask God to help her know me. Right now I’m thankful for one more day in which she was able to call me by name.

3. In the way He uses Scripture in your heart. My little niece at AWANA, studying the “big girl” Bible I gave her. What a blessing that she’s learning to love His Word!

4. In a passage from a book that especially touches you. A beautiful copy of Fanny Crosby’s hymns gifted by a friend.

5. In the ordinary treats God sprinkles throughout your day. Enjoying Chinese food with my students after seeing Les Mis.

I want to live with an eye out for the signs that point to God’s nearness. Will you join me?

I’ll be offering a link-up at the beginning of each week. Let’s promote what God has done for us! I’d love for you to share in the comments or in a blog post about how God has revealed His presence in your life. What sweet signs of His nearness has He given you? What hidden treasures has He revealed? What practices do you include in your day so that you don’t overlook Him? Here’s a linky in case you want to share this week. I may not get to visit your post right away, but I faithfully pray for each one who leaves a comment. Blessings, sweet bloggy friends!

This week I’m linking up with Monday Musings, Hear It on Sunday, Soli Deo Gloria, The Better Mom, Covered in Grace, Rachelwojo, Modest Mondays, GraceLaced Mondays, Raising Arrows, A Mama’s Story, Teach Me Tuesdays, Gratituesdays, Just Write, Titus 2 Tuesdays, Tell Me About It Tuesday, Tuesdays Unwrapped, Teaching What Is Good, Mom’s Library, Tuesday Tips, What I Learned This Week, Heart and Home, Domestically Divine Tuesday, Raising Homemakers, Deep Roots at Home, God Bumps, Wednesday Walkabout, Think Outside the Blog, Word-filled Wednesday, Thankful Homemaker, Wisdom Wednesday, Wholehearted Home Wednesdays, Thursday Favorite Things,Thriving Thursday, Hearts for Home, Legacy Leaver, Thoughtful Thursday, Life in the Comments, Almost Friday Thursday Blog Hop, Favorite Things, Faith-filled Friday, Friday @Homemaker by Choice, Just for Fun Friday, Fellowship Friday, Womanhood with Purpose, Weekend Whatever, and Heart Reflected.

I’m a morning person. When 5:30 rolls around, I easily rise to silence my alarm and start the coffee. Snuggling in my favorite robe, I savor that first, best cup of the day in front of my laptop while sampling a few Bible verses, an insightful quote, or a short devotional from the online inspirational news feed.

Often something beyond the words woos me—invites me to linger, to delve deeper—but I resist and jump into the Rush-About phase of my routine: tidy the kitchen, choose clothes, fix hair, ready school bag, grab lunch, go.

Teaching at a small Christian school nestled in Clinton-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-Corners means a 45-minute drive for me. On my way out of town, I snake through side streets and back roads to avoid school buses. Near the diner/gas station plazas, the work trucks slow me down. But once I hit the Taconic Parkway, I can fly. I let my mind drift with the radio until I crest a familiar hill.

There the newly-risen sun lights the trees into luminous beauty. The tableau makes me gasp. The brilliance overwhelms me. I blink away tears and wonder if this is how Noah felt when he first saw God’s bow in the sky.

And I savor this sign that God is here, close, real in my world.

Are you like me? Too often sidelining God. Too often flying through the day. Until I stumble upon some sweet treasure tucked into an unexpected corner of my life and once again draw close and adore Him.

Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.”

A common word used for miracle in the New Testament can also be translated sign. So a miracle is a sign that God uses to point to Himself—like the treasures with which He fills our days but on a grander scale.

I want to live 2013 with an eye out for the signs that point to God’s nearness. Will you join me? Here’s a hint of where we’ll find Him . . .

  • In something beautiful that catches our eye
  • In an answer to prayer that lifts our souls
  • In the way He uses Scripture in our hearts
  • In a passage from a fiction or non-fiction book that touches us
  • In counting our blessings
  • In the small joys of daily life

I’ll be offering a link-up at the beginning of each week. Let’s promote what God has done for us! I’d love for you to share in the comments or in a blog post about how God has revealed His presence in your life. What sweet signs has He given you? What hidden treasures has He revealed? What practices do you include in your day so that you don’t overlook Him? Here’s a linky in case you want to share this week. I may not get to visit your post right away, but I faithfully pray for each one who leaves a comment. Blessings, sweet bloggy friends!

Bonus graphic: A pic I snapped on one of my many trips up and down the Taconic Parkway. This scene is half as lovely as the photo I didn’t get—the incredible view described above!

Breaking News: Winner of the $10 Amazon Email Gift Card is LeAnn. Congrats, LeAnn! Email me!

Periodically, I’ve been trying something new on the blog: a blog hop, which I’m calling Come to the Table.

When I started this blog link up, I was hoping to create a place where blogs would receive more visibility. I encouraged you to visit your link up neighbors and make new friends. But visiting around to your neighbors takes time.

So I’m now trying a ONCE A MONTH hop. I’ll post the hop at the end of the month, and we can all link up our favorite posts. (I will try this at the end of November. If no one is interested, I’ll move on to something else!)

Why call it Come to the Table? Because one of my favorite things is to gather around a cozy kitchen table with a group of friends–with a mug of coffee in hand, of course–and share whatever is on our hearts.

What is a blog hop? An event where bloggers link up their posts and share with readers whatever is on their hearts.

Giveaway Prize: I’m giving away a $10 Amazon Email Gift Card to one participant. You are entered when you link up and each time you comment on a post! Giveaway ends next Friday, December 7th.

What kind of posts will bloggers link here? I invite bloggers to link their favorite post (or posts) from the last month . . .

  • Thoughts on how God has been working in your life
  • A post about your family
  • A review of a great book you’ve read
  • A giveaway we’d be interested in
  • A word about something wonderful that just happened to you
  • A post about a disappointment or heartache
  • Thoughts on Scripture
  • A list of some of your favorite things

So with all those choices, readers will find a little bit of everything at this blog hop. Bloggers, link what you will—as long as it is Inspirational or Family Friendly.

UPDATE: My winners from the contest are Juju at Tales of Whimsy and Anita Yancey! Congrats, ladies! I’ll be emailing you soon 🙂

I’m glad you stopped by because this week we’re celebrating November with a Thankful Giveaway Hop!

For about a week, you can hop around from blog to blog and scoop up some great book-related prizes without leaving the comfort of your own home. This exciting event was organized by Inspired Kathy of the I Am A Reader, Not A Writer Blog.

The hop will run from Wednesday, November 7th, to Tuesday, November 13th, at 11:59 pm. Do you remember how it works? You can enter my giveaway and then hop to any blog on the linky list (at the end of this post) to see what they’re offering. Who knows what wonderful prizes are out there!?

The Doorkeeper Prize: I’m giving away a $10 Amazon Email Gift Card. And, if the response is so great that I end up with lots of new FB and Twitter fans, I’ll add a card. That would mean two winners! (If the winners do not see their names and contact me, I will also email them.)

As for God, His way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
He shields all who take refuge in Him.
~Psalm 18:30, NIV~

~And from The Message~
What a God!
His road stretches
Straight and smooth.
Every God-direction is road-tested.
Everyone who runs toward him
Makes it.

Photo Backstory: Missionary Jim Elliot’s short life of service and sacrifice lend credibility to his calm assurance that we follow a God who He always has our best in mind. Jim’s quote seemed fitting to grace these lovely trees from my niece’s yard. That red color had me pulling out my iPhone camera to snap a pic. Of course, this was several weeks ago and pre-Hurricane Sandy!

I wrote about Jim and Elisabeth Elliot here: The Most Remarkable Woman I’ve Never Met.

And here: The Most Remarkable Woman I’ve Never Met, Part II.

This week I’m linking up with Word-filled Wednesday, Thankful Homemaker, Wholehearted Home Wednesdays, This and That Thursday, Little Things Thursday, Thursday Favorite Things, Hearts for Home, Legacy Leaver, Beautiful Thursday, Simply Link, Favorite Things, Faith-filled Friday, Weekend WhateverScripture and a Snapshot, Your Sunday Best, Still Saturday, The Sunday Community, Heart Reflected, and Fresh-brewed Sundays.

****And now for some breaking news about COME TO THE TABLE, the blog link up for my wonderful bloggy friends!

When I started a blog link up, I was hoping to create a place where blogs would receive more visibility. So I encouraged folks to visit their link up neighbors and make new friends.

But visiting neighbor blogs takes time, and some folks had trouble visiting around. So I will try the hop one more time—as an END of the MONTH blog hop. I will post the hop during the last week of November. Bloggers can link any favorite post (or posts) from the month.

What do you all think? Any input? If there is not enough interest, I will move on to one of my other blogging ideas!

Oh—and the winner of the Amazon Gift Card from the last hop is Brittany! Congrats!

Thanks for stopping in today! Blessings, Friends!

***Right now my blog theme can’t handle those cute social sharing buttons that make life so easy. But here’s a quick link to Facebook if you want to spread this quote around. And I know you have a Pin It button by now!
